Out with the Old, in the the New: Non-Iron Recycling
Fair Salvage Yard has replaced Advanced Metal Recycling along Old-27 just south of the Houghton Lake State Police Post. They have a drive-upon scale on the north end of their building. Copper, stainless steel, aluminum, brass and other non-ferrous (non-magnetic) materials are recycled. They do not recycle iron. January 17th - Good Ice, No Snow
Houghton Lake ice conditions are good for fishing; However there is little or no snow upon its surface. Visitors planning to attend the first weekend of Tip-Up Town January 23rd & 24th will find conditions better suited for four-wheelers versus snowmobiles.

New Year's Fun - Snow and Ice
New Year's Day was bright and sunny with many snowmobilers and fisherman out to enjoy the day. The ice is now six to eight inches thick at Houghton Lake. Higgins Lake is beginning to skim with ice along shore.
